GRAND-AM racing and the future WRC entry aren’t the only places MINI is, or will be, racing.  Today is the beginning stage of the Targa Newfoundland 2010, a rally on the island of Newfoundland, Canada.

MINI driver and past Targa Newfoundland winner Jim Kenzie is back this year with navigator Brian Bourbonniere.  They will be driving the MINI CHALLENGE car No. 807 in the Targa Open class.  From Jim Kenzie’s article at thestar.com:

I’ll be back in the Mini Challenge race car we ran last year, after I rolled my former (two-time Open Division champion!) Mini Cooper S JCW into a tight little ball in 2008.

The race car’s suspension, designed for smooth, flat-track road racing circuits, proved to be too firm for the rough roads typical of Newfoundland rallying.

MINI Canada is supplying the car this year.

MINIs are also running in other classes including Targa Modern and Grand Touring.
