LET’S TAKE IT OFF. LET’S TAKE IT ALL OFF.

Here’s a clever MINI ad created in cooperation with Playboy magazine.  The back cover of the magazine shows a top view of a Hot Orange MINI Cooper Convertible with the White roof printed on the clear plastic wrapper.  When one removes the wrapper, the MINI Hardtop turns into a MINI Convertible.

This ad appeared on the November 2004 issue of Playboy.

collectible of the day: MINI Snowglobe 2004

MINI Snowglobe 2004
From 2002 through 2004 MINI USA sold collectible snowglobes as part of their MotoringGear collection. They were limited editions and there was a different one each year.

Shown is the MINI Snowglobe 2004.  It features an Electric Blue MINI.

Once these snowglobes sold out, they could often be found for sale on MINI forums or eBay for upwards of $100 or more.

See the MINI Snowglobe 2003.

collectible of the day: MINI BRAND PLAYING CARDS

MINI BRAND PLAYING CARDSFor the MINI MOTORINGGEAR SPRING/SUMMER 2007 collection, MINI USA decided to forgo the usual catalog format and instead produced this pack of MINI BRAND PLAYING CARDS.  There is a different MINI MotoringGear item on the face of each card.  The included fold-out sheet also shows the entire collection with descriptions, sizes, and prices.  The sheet says:

THIS TIME, NOTHING GETS LOST IN THE SHUFFLE.

Here’s the deal: when prime motoring weather rolls around, it’s easy to give yourself over to the road without outfitting yourself for the occasion. To help counteract this phenomenon, we’ve decked out a set of playing cards in the all-new and classic MINI MotoringGear in the hopes you’ll follow suit. Created in the MINI tradition, MotoringGear is tailor made for finding a style that’s all your own. Because in the world of motoring, one of a kind wins every time.

The pack contains the usual 52 cards plus two Jokers.  Instead of the normal diamond, hearts, clubs, and spades, this set uses an exit sign (diamonds), Interstate sign (hearts), pine tree air freshener (clubs), and MINI bulldog (spades).  One additional card has “POKER TERMS THAT COULD COME IN HANDY SOMEDAY” on one side and “HOW TO SHUFFLE LIKE YOU MEAN IT” on the other.

The MINI USA catalog number is MG-04-07-20M.

collectible of the day: COUNTERFEIT MINI COOPERS brochure

COUNTERFEIT MINI COOPERS brochure
COUNTERFEIT MINI COOPERS

This brochure was part of a viral campaign by Crispin Porter + Bogusky (which included a website and fake PSA videos).  It was supposedly produced by the Counter Counterfeit Commission (CCC).  The brochure is subtitled “PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE HUMILIATION OF OWNING A FAKE!” and in the corner it says “UPDATED FOR 2005!”.

Inside the tri-fold color brochure are photos of “counterfeit” MINI Coopers: other cars (or duct-taped motorcycles!) painted and altered to resemble MINIs.  Also a guide showing “HOW TO IDENTIFY A GENUINE MINI”.

The brochure opens into a full-size poster.

The MINI USA catalog number is INS002-05.

The COUNTERFEIT MINI COOPERS brochure ad insert can be found in these magazine issues:
