collectible of the day: 2008 Product Brief. MINI JCW models

2008 Product Brief. MINI JCW models
Earlier this month we had the 2008 Product Brief. That manual covered the 2008 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Hardtop and MINI Clubman models. Later that year, MINI USA produced the 2008 Product Brief. MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop & Clubman. Like the 2008 Product Brief, this one does not include the MINI Convertible.

The Product Brief is for the Motoring Advisors to describe in detail the MINI vehicles and to highlight the new features.

The 30 page spiral-bound glossy book describes in deep detail the standard equipment and options on the 2008 MINI John Cooper Works models and gives selling points.  The contents include: IDENTITY, CONFIGURATIONS, PRODUCT RANGE, YOU-IFICATION, JOHN COOPER WORKS ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATION, THE MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS NITTY GRITTY, and TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS.

The back page reads “For use within the MINI Organization Only. Date of issue: July 2008.”

BMW wins award for the engine of the MINI Cooper S

From BMW Group PressClub Global:

The wide range of winning engines is further evidence of the outstanding expertise of the BMW Group in the area of engine development. It enables engines of great power yet also exemplary efficiency to be offered across all series and output classes. The “Engine of the Year” awards were conferred by an international jury made up of 76 engine journalists from 35 countries.
The award ceremony was held at the “Engine Expo” trade fair in Stuttgart.

The “Engine of the Year” awards have been in existence since 1999. Since then over 50 class and overall victories have fallen to engines developed for automobiles of the brands BMW and MINI. Among the serial production winners in this competition were the 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine from the MINI Cooper S, achieving its fourth and last victory this year. Next year it will be the turn of the recently presented successor engine in the 1.4 – 1.8 litre capacity class. In addition to the Twin Scroll technology and petrol direct injection of its award-winning predecessor, this engine also has variable valve control and an output of 135 kw/184 bhp, as well as being the world’s most efficient engine in its capacity class.

RSR Motorsports results at Mid-Ohio

The GRAND-AM season continued on last weekend at Mid-Ohio.  The RSR Motorsports MINIs have had a few good showings but have been hit with many reliability problems since the first race at Daytona.  To sort things out, the team hired a chassis engineer named Jim Haaser.

VJ Mirzayan and Sarah Cattaneo in the 197 MINI placed 11th.

The driver shuffling continued in the 196 MINI with BJ Zacharias and Mark Congleton who took 19th after being hit from behind and flattening a tire.

The Mid-Ohio race will be shown on SPEED on Saturday, June 26th at 1:00pm ET.

collectible of the day: Hammer and Coop glossy photo ad

Hammer & Coop glossy photo adIn February 2007, MINI USA launched the Hammer & Coop advertising campaign developed by Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners.  The campaign centered on Web episodes of a series starring Jim Turtledove as “Hammer” and a MINI Cooper S as “Coop”.  This ad insert was made to look like their publicity photo.

Hammer is a lovable tough guy with looks that kill and a karate punch that isn’t too shabby either. Coop is a more powerful 2007 MINI with ball bearings of steel. Together this unlikely duo is on the run, fighting for justice, looking for answers and reestablishing the belief in the power of a guy and a car. This is Hammer & Coop. This is the next classic car/buddy TV show. Get ready to kick some asphalt.

The Hammer & Cooper glossy press photo ad insert appeared in these magazine issues:

  • Automobile. April 2007. (between pages 48 & 49)
  • Motor Trend. Vol. 59, No. 5. May 2007. (between pages 24 & 25)
  • The New Yorker. April 9, 2007. (between pages 8 & 9)

collectible of the day: SIRIUS Radio cards

In 2003 MINI USA introduced the SIRIUS Satellite Radio option. These three dealer cards were used to promote SIRIUS Radio on displays. Printed on thick card stock, they measured 6″ wide by 12″ high.  The common wording on the three cards states:

Beyond the shower stall, there’s no better place to sing your favorite song than in your MINI (preferably at the top of your lungs, slightly off-key and with your eyes on the road). And it’s all the better with SIRIUS.

Ask your MINI dealer for a SIRIUS demo. And feel free to sing out loud.

The MINI USA catalog number is MMA-105 (Printed 4/2003).
