If you attended MINI Takes the States 2012, you probably collected several button pins from the cities or sponsors on the route.  Now MINI USA, via Facebook, is offering virtual badges in partnership with Basno.

Whether you joined us for one city or went all the way, we know one thing is for sure: you scanned your badge and you collected your pins. Now that your lanyards are tucked away or are proudly on display for loved ones to see, we want you to show the rest of the world what you accomplished.

We have three virtual badges that you can collect and share via e-mail and on your social networks. Please have your badge number and/or email address handy to identify whether you were an ATTENDEE, went COAST TO COAST or attended a MINIcross event. You can collect your virtual badges here.

Major MINI events are always a great source of MINI items for collectors.  MINI Takes the States 2012 was no exception.

Each person who registered received an event lanyard and badge which was scanned to enter the events.  Also included with registration was a special MTTS 2012 bag filled with lots of MINI and non-MINI items including:

  • MINI Takes the States 2012 window cling
  • MINI Cooper scale model or MINI Bulldog keychain
  • MINI mousepad
  • The MINI International magazine vol. 37
  • MINI MotoringGear 2012 catalog
  • MINI print ads such as Whiptastic Handing and Gas Tank Lid decals
  • MINI Motoring Graphics 20% discount postcard
  • SiriusXM / MINI brochure
  • shopautoweek.com water bottle
  • AFAR magazine July/August 2012 issue
  • Tetley tea bags

Like previous MINI Takes the States events, MINI USA distributed button pins for each host city, events like MINIcross, and sponsors.  Once again there was a special Bulldog button pin only available from “Chief Motorer” Jim McDowell (obtained by giving him the secret handshake).

MINI USA sold several items such as MTTS 2012 shirts and coffee tumblers.  Collectible items included MTTS 2012 metal grille badges ($20), lapel pins ($3), and keychains ($3).  MINI Financial Services handed out free temporary tattoos, as well.

MINI Takes the States 2012 begins

MINI Takes the States 2012

MINI Takes the States 2012 has begun!  After a pre-party at Prestige MINI last night, the official event began this morning at MINI USA headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey.  From the press release:

The MINI TAKES THE STATES organisers are expecting several thousand registered participants. Some will be driving individual stages only in their MINI, others undertaking the full 3,903-mile (6,281-kilometre) distance. In store for them is not only an automotive adventure over an extremely attractive route, but also an extraordinary shared experience both on the road and when the day’s driving is done. After New York and Washington, the convoy will pass through Charlotte and Nashville, Chicago, Des Moines, Boulder, Albuquerque and Phoenix, among other places, before crossing California on their way to Los Angeles, the Pacific coast and, most importantly, the venue for the end-of-rally party. A richly varied programme looking at every aspect of MINI will be spread over the stop-off points along the route. Activities include sporting competitions and slalom tests held on closed roads, free from the shackles of the otherwise strictly observed speed limits.

MINI TAKES THE STATES has been held every other year since 2006. As in all previous editions of the rally, a portion of the proceeds from each 30 US dollars participant registration fee will be donated to charity. To this end, a minimum of 10,000 US dollars will be presented to an organisation supported by MINI USA – regardless of the number of participants in the rally.

If you can’t attend the event, the next best thing is to follow along online.  Several social media sites will help:

MINI confirms Paceman name

MINI Paceman Concept

At the start of MINI Takes the States 2012, Dr. Kay Segler took the opportunity to announce that the MINI Paceman would retain that name for production.  Many sources had speculated that the vehicle would simply be called the MINI Countryman Coupé.

From the BMW Group PressClub press release:

Dr Kay Segler, Senior Vice President MINI Brand Management, joined the field for the opening stage of the event, which led the drivers from MINI USA’s Woodcliff Lake headquarters in the north of New York City to the US capital Washington. Segler had used the opening ceremony to acknowledge the rapid development of the brand in the USA and look ahead to the next stage in the growth of the MINI model range. “We will continue to expand the MINI family,” said Segler, “and, in so doing, build on our global position as the leading manufacturer of premium models in the small and compact car segment.” And Segler went on to officially confirm “MINI Paceman” as the name of the brand’s seventh model, which will be presented in a few months’ time and launched onto the market in 2013.

The powerfully formed three-door model sees MINI once again laying the foundations for a whole new vehicle segment with the aim of giving more new target groups a taste of the excitement and allure of the brand. “The MINI Paceman is the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium compact segment. It combines a clear appetite for extravagance and infectious driving fun in a style that only a MINI could pull off with such authenticity,” Segler confirmed.
